My husband was driving back from Annapolis, MD when he noticed smoke coming from an embankment off the side of the highway. He pulled over and ran down the embankment to find a car on fire with three men in it. He pulled two of the men out and out of danger but the third man was stuck. He kept pulling even though he knew the car was about to explode . Suddenly another stranger was next to him and together, they pulled the man out. Within minutes the car did explode. My husband stayed with the three men until the state police and Lifestar arrived. Then he left - he never found out the three men’s names or if the third man, who was injured quite badly in the crash, survived. After all these years, he still has the leather coat that he wore that night, which was burnt and ripped during the rescue.

I feel that he is a hero in that he risked his life for three people that he didn't know and, asked if he would do it again, the answer is always the same: "yes - in a heartbeat".
