A highly successful businessman whose portfolio ranged from real estate development to economic consulting, James Jackson has traveled the world extensively. But during a trip to Rio de Janeiro in 1987, James observed long lines of people waiting to enter a small medical clinic. When he inquired within, he learned that the clinic had to turn away entire families, including young children, because it lacked sufficient resources. James promised an attending physician that he would personally ensure that the clinic would receive the desperately needed medical supplies. In just one month’s time, he secured nearly a quarter of a million dollars worth of donated medical surplus and shipped it from his hometown in Colorado to Brazil. With this donation, James laid the foundation for what became the Commission on Urgent Relief and Equipment – Project C.U.R.E.

Through Project C.U.R.E., James Jackson has literally saved the lives of thousands of people living in poverty around the world. As a result of his efforts, hundreds of Vietnamese children have received critically needed operations. Children in Azerbaijan and Afghanistan, afflicted by blindness, are now seeing for the first time because of the intraocular transplants provided by Project C.U.R.E. Doctors at a children's hospital in Ukraine now have modern medical supplies with which to treat their patients.

Today, Project C.U.R.E. operates branches in Phoenix, Los Angeles, Nashville, Houston, Minneapolis/Saint Paul, and even in London, England. It currently sends millions of dollars in lifesaving medical supplies to almost one hundred different countries.

From its humble beginnings, James Jackson has expanded Project C.U.R.E. into one of the world's largest nongovernmental providers of donated medical supplies. Since the program's founding, he has worked strictly as a volunteer. For him, knowing that Project C.U.R.E. continues to make the world a better place with every shipment that reaches a clinic, a hospital, or a patient in need is its own reward.
