Scott Baker, had just returned home when his scanner radio picked up the frantic pleas for help from a local Sheriff's Deputy.
The Deputy was under fire and his partner had been shot. Knowing any assistance was miles away, Scott immediately grabbed his hunting rifle and sped to the scene four blocks away. Upon his arrival, Scott found that the deputy calling for assistance had also been wounded and was slumped behind his patrol car.
Without hesitation Scott confronted the suspect and demanded that he drop his weapon. After repeated orders to stop and raise his hands, the suspect complied. Scott restrained him with the wounded officers’ handcuffs, then placed the suspect in the rear of the patrol car, notified dispatch to send in ambulances and comforted the fallen officer.
After helping to make sure the wounded officer was safe, Scott helped control traffic and secure the area. Sadly, the partner was killed, but Scott’s quick response to the situation, saved the wounded officer’s life.
