Donald Hartley’s heroic accomplishments focus on eliminating hunger.
Over the course of the last 20 years, he has donated more than 100,110 pounds of vegetables to the needy. In 2003 alone, he donated 5,893 pounds of vegetables. All of the vegetables he donates, he grows in his own backyard.
In his campaign against hunger, Donald also has made canisters to place in businesses around Prior Lake, Minn., for cash donations to the Scott Carver Dakota Community Action Agency's food shelf in Shakopee, Minn.
Donald’s life has been consumed with helping others avoid hunger. His passion stems from an experience he had as a POW in Germany. Donald saw emaciation and death in varying degrees first-hand, and mentally he knows how it feels to dream of candy and hot oatmeal and think that all hope is gone. He never wants another person to go without food, and feels that giving to others will give hope for a better future.
