Dr. Stephen Kutner is the founder of Jewish Healthcare International, an organization that provides a higher quality of medical care in Kiev, Ukraine; Kishinev, Moldova; Minsk, Belarus; Odessa, Ukraine; and Riga, Latvia.

Since he closed his ophthalmology practice and founded JHI in July 1999, Stephen has served as Medical Director for the organization.

Being Medical Director of JHI has become Dr. Kutner's life. Although he works for JHI full-time, he takes no salary.

He has volunteered on eleven JHI missions to countries of the former Soviet Union, providing free eye care to the indigent, and training to ophthalmologists overseas. The opthalmologists then provide free services to their patients throughout the year.
