In 1992, Betsy Krebs founded Youth Advocacy Center (YAC) to help foster care teenagers learn better ways to reach their goals for the future.
The organization teaches teens to employ the methods of self-advocacy to achieve their goals, and introduces them to informational interviews as a first tangible step toward moving toward a positive and productive future.
Betsy herself uses her personal and professional contacts to build a network of top executives and individuals to meet with teens for informational interviews. She gets people at the highest levels of business, government, and academia to volunteer their time to advise foster care teens on their education and career plans.
In 2003, YAC reached hundreds of teens in NYC and began training organizations around the country in YAC’s self-advocacy model.
