Karen Carbonello founded the non-profit Creative Heartwork in 2001 to improve the lives of children experiencing the challenges of illness, disability, separation, poverty, abuse and neglect.

Creative Heartwork provides healing programs in a nurturing environment. The organization employs therapists and artists, implementing creative venues to provide the opportunity to re-frame experiences, channel emotions, enhance resiliency, promote self esteem and encourage healthy adjustment to circumstances beyond their control.

Karen also works to promote a greater awareness of the healing benefits of the arts and the risk factors facing many youths.

Even though she is director and founder of this organization, Karen has yet to draw a salary.
