The Linda Towns Breast Cancer Foundation
Mary Crump
Los Angeles, California

In December 2003, Mary Crump used funds that she had earmarked for her retirement to establish The Linda Towns Breast Cancer Foundation. Her goal was to provide in-house care for women with breast cancer during their recovery or continued treatment. To provide the home-like setting for women during their most critical phase of recovery and/or treatment, Mary secured, refurbished, and furnished a house at her own expense. She continues to finance much of the Foundation and its outpatient home.

Mary dedicated the home, called the Linda Towns House, to the memory of Linda Towns, a dear friend who died of breast cancer. The Linda Towns House stands as a beacon of hope for women in the lower socio-economic community for which it serves. An underserved group, these women are especially vulnerable to feelings of helplessness when diagnosed with breast cancer.

The Linda Towns Breast Cancer Foundation held its grand-opening ceremony in June 2004, during which Mary explained the Foundation’s goals: reaching, teaching and helping women and their families through the crises situations associated with breast cancer.

Mary Crump is intimately aware of the issues. A healthcare professional and a 20-year breast cancer survivor herself, Mary had in-home assistance for 4 weeks following her own surgery for cancer. She believes that every woman diagnosed with breast cancer deserves nothing less during her recovery/treatment process. Mary has worked tirelessly to bring a staff of other likeminded healthcare professionals to her cause. Mary’s team provides for the clients’ every need during their stay at the Linda Towns House, and at no expense to the clients or their families.
