Nicholas is a high school senior, a scholar, and an athlete who has a passion for serving others. Last school year he started a club at his high school, Athletes Reaching Out. His goal was to recruit greater numbers of high school athletes and others to perform community service.
Under Nicholas’s leadership, the club has grown substantially. It has sponsored numerous outreach efforts, including workdays to help a single mother who has a child with leukemia. Additionally, the club collected 250 pounds of toiletries and near 100 coats for The Foster Care Support Foundation. Another outreach project involved doing renovation and maintenance work for a transitional housing agency, called Homestretch. Rather than work in a salaried position during his free time, Nicholas volunteers his efforts to Homestretch. Here, Nicholas helps 23 families transition from homelessness to self-sufficiency. For his dedication, he has been named the North Fulton Student Service Ambassador. Nicholas is now working on a project to encourage students from all of our 8 regional high schools to volunteer at Homestretch.
Nicholas has also participated in missionary trips to the urban ghetto of Fortaleza Brazil, every year for the past 5 years. Based upon his experiences, Nicholas chose to donate his money earmarked for a senior ring toward the ongoing outreach efforts in Brazil.
Nicholas is an honors student and a fine athlete. He has dedicated his time and talents to helping others. Nicholas’s efforts have also helped fellow students discover the joy and satisfaction of serving their communities. Nicholas hopes that his fellow students will gain a lifelong commitment to serving their communities, and especially the less fortunate among us.
